Rams waiting on duo

Derby will check on leading scorer Jamie Ward and influential midfielder Craig Bryson ahead of the visit of in-form Peterborough.

Ward, who has netted 12 goals this season despite missing chunks of the campaign with a troublesome hamstring problem, missed the last-gasp draw at Barnsley with an ankle injury while Bryson was also absent on Tuesday night.

Bryson was left out of the squad as back-to-back games in the space of four days would have proved too much for the 26-year-old, who continues to play through the pain of a groin complaint.

Rams boss Nigel Clough will give the duo as long as possible before making a final decision on their fitness.

Teenage striker Mason Bennett impressed during the 1-1 draw at Oakwell, in what was only the 16-year-old's third start in professional football, giving Clough a tough decision to make on whether to stick with the Academy product or recall Conor Sammon.

Derby will be looking for a first win in four matches against a Posh team who are unbeaten in their last 10 Championship outings.

Jack Payne is expected to return to the Peterborough squad.

Payne missed the victory over Watford and Tuesday night's goalless draw with Brighton with the ankle injury that forced him out of the action during the 2-2 draw at Huddersfield 13 days ago.

The midfielder, on loan from Gillingham, has resumed training and should travel north with the Posh squad.

However, defenders Mark Little and Michael Bostwick will remain on the sidelines.

Right wing-back Little may not play again this season after suffering a hamstring injury against Watford last weekend.

Bostwick, who is a midfielder by trade but has been playing at centre-back, remains unavailable and his campaign could also be over after he suffered a setback last week in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Peterborough are the Championship's form team having extended their unbeaten run to a club record 10 matches at this level against Brighton.
