Whitbread set for Rams start
Zak Whitbread is expected to go straight into the Derby starting line up against Ipswich.
Whitbread has been brought in on loan from Leicester as Richard Keogh's red card in the defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which signalled the end of Nigel Clough's reign as manager, left Jake Buxton as the only recognised senior centre-back at the club.
Keogh will serve a one-match suspension while Shaun Barker and Mark O'Brien are still recovering from long-term knee injuries.
Academy manager Darren Wassall will take charge of first-team affairs following Clough's departure but he will also be without injured midfield trio Paul Coutts (dislocated kneecap), Jeff Hendrick (ankle) and James Bailey (knee) and goalkeeper Adam Legzdins (ankle).
Mick McCarthy will likely keep faith with an unchanged XI for Ipswich.
McCarthy sent out the same XI against Brighton on Saturday as the one which lost 2-0 at Wigan and and the Town boss duly watched his side record a 2-0 victory of their own thanks to David McGoldrick's brace.
With no new injury or suspension problems expected, McCarthy will see no reason for change at Pride Park, where the Rams will be led by Academy manager Darren Wassall following Nigel Clough's sacking on Monday evening.
Tyrone Mings is back in full training having recovered from the knee injury sustained on the opening day of the season but the defender is not yet match ready.
