Derby 1 Birmingham 2: Capello must pick Joe Hart NOW, insists McLeish

Alex McLeish warned Fabio Capello that taking Joe Hart to the World Cup will be a risk if the young goalkeeper does not receive greater exposure to international football before he boards the plane to South Africa. [LNB]McLeish spoke to the England manager about Hart last Thursday night at the LMA dinner at Wembley. [LNB]As a former Scotland boss, McLeish is aware that the magnifying glass is focused upon every individual's performance at international level. [LNB] Mutual respect: Joe Hart (right) shakes hands with Derby's Robbie Savage[LNB]Perhaps mindful of the problems faced by Scott Carson - who has never truly recovered from his Euro 2008 qualifying blooper against Croatia - McLeish feels that Hart could be used in the warm-up matches.[LNB] The keeper's lofty standards slipped when Jay McEveley's long-range 55th-minute shot bounced up and into the net. But a quite superb tip-over from Robbie Savage's 30-yard, injury-time strike protected Birmingham's place in the sixth round after defenders Scott Dann and Liam Ridgewell profited at two set-pieces.[LNB] 'I don't want to pick Fabio's team,' said McLeish. 'But Joe has earned the right to go to the World Cup. He has had a fabulous season. I'm sure McEveley's shot hit a bobble. [LNB] No hard feelings: Derby midfielder Savage and the linesman see the funny sideafter the player smashed the ball between the official's legs attempting toclear it[LNB]'He will blame himself for it because he is conscientious. But that was a great save from Savage.[LNB] 'It would be better to feed Joe into the system before you arrive at the World Cup because, if you make one error in the Finals, it is there for the whole world to see. Scott Carson is a great 'keeper, but what happened may have affected him.' [LNB]Birmingham made it to the last eight for only the second time in 26 years. But Savage, booed by the travelling fans, almost had the last laugh with his dipping shot. He was upset at the final whistle when visiting centre-half Roger Johnson directed a few words at him. [LNB] That settles it: Liam Ridgewell scores Birmingham's second goal[LNB]Savage said: 'I'm disappointed in Johnson because when we were coming off he shouted over: "I'll be drinking the champagne tonight, Sav". Well, he can swig his Moet but he should know that I've been drinking Dom Perignon for the past 12 years in the Premier League.[LNB] 'Actually, I've not been drinking champagne for the past 12 years, which is why I played in the Premier League for that long and I'm still playing at the age of 35.[LNB] 'He's played only a handful of games in the Premier League and he's saying that. I'm a wind-up merchant, but I've got more respect.[LNB] 'He should concentrate a bit more on what's happening on the pitch because Kris Commons gave him the run around.'[LNB] FA Cup sixth round draw: Chelsea head for potential Man City showdownSavage: People see the tan and the hair - they don't realise I love football!BIRMINGHAM CITY FC
