The 21-year-old left Pride Park on crutches and with his left leg heavily strapped from thigh to ankle following Saturday's 2-1 win against Plymouth Argyle. He went down in some pain early after his studs appeared to get caught in the turf.
Boss Nigel Clough told his club's official website. "It's good news and the lay off should be short term rather than long term. The scan showed only slight damage so it's something we can treat here with our medical staff."
He added: "The fact it's good news and not another long-term injury does change the situation in regards to bringing a striker in on loan. That said, should one of our targets become available we will look to move quickly and decisively."
