Davies extends Derby deal
Derby forward Steven Davies has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2012.
The 23-year-old's current deal was due to expire at the end of the season but he has earned a prolonged stay at Pride Park after proving he has fully recovered from a serious knee injury.
Davies has been blighted by a series of injuries since arriving from Tranmere in June 2008, with knee, ankle, foot and cheekbone problems all sidelining him at some stage.
A knee injury suffered this summer needed surgery to repair cruciate ligament damage, but the determination and attitude he showed during rehabilitation has impressed manager Nigel Clough.
"We all know Steven has the ability to become an established player at Derby County but last year we had question marks over his fitness levels," said Clough. "Steven proved to us in the summer just how determined he was to put a stop-start two years behind him and he reported back in fantastic shape.
"His character has been a breath of fresh air, he has worked incredibly hard and if anyone deserves a slice of good fortune, it is Steven. The contract is a reward for all the hard work he has put in, but he knows it doesn't stop here and he has to maintain the standards he has set himself."
