Consistency key for Commons - Clough

Derby manager Nigel Clough has warned fans' favourite Kris Commons he must be consistent if he is to earn a new contract at the npower Championship club. The Scotland international midfielder, who was frustrated by hamstring problems last season, will be out of contract with the Rams at the end of the current campaign. Commons produced a superb display against Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening, scoring two goals to help Derby to a 3-1 victory. But Clough insists the 27-year-old must turn in such displays more regularly. "He still has eight months remaining on his contract and there have been no talks about a new one yet," Clough told The Sun. "He is not going anywhere yet but we will have to see what develops in the next few months. "We will have to see if he can produce something more like that on a regular basis. The thing with him is that he has to be more consistent with his displays. He has to put a run of performances together and get on the pitch more often. We don't just give up contracts easily. The point is that you have to earn contracts at any club."
