Commons ready for Derby comeback

Derby midfielder Kris Commons says he is fit to take part in the Rams' matches over the festive period after recovering from a hamstring injury.The 26-year-old has not featured in the first-team since October but played 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Burton this week.

Commons told BBC Radio Derby: "It's been a stop-start season so far and hopefully I am over the injury worries.

"Now I want to crack on and start playing football."

Derby host Blackpool at Pride Park on Boxing Day and travel to Championship leaders Newcastle two days later.

"The gaffer (Nigel Clough) had a few words with me to say he needs me 100% fit before training or games and hopefully this will be the last injury of the season," added Commons.

"I am training Christmas Day and hopefully I will do enough to get in the gaffer's plans and be in contention for Boxing Day.

"I have been trying to get as fit as possible but you can't rush these things. I had to make sure the diet was right and to drink plenty of fluids.

"I have learnt a lot from my injury and I have never worked worked so hard with (coach) Johnny Metgod."
