The midfielder has been struggling with a hamstring problem of late but managed to play 66 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Doncaster before being substituted.

"Robbie has been struggling with a nerve problem at the top of his hamstring," Clough told the Derby Telegraph. "It has been building up and we just thought he was struggling a bit. That wasn't really him out there.

"He has been playing with a bit of discomfort in the last few weeks. With a good week this week, he should be fit for Blackpool."

Savage echoed the sentiments of his manager, saying: "I will play through niggles. The reason I have played so many games is that I have played through niggles.

"But there are no excuses for Saturday, my performance was not good enough."
