Clough closing in on transfer targets

Derby boss Nigel Clough has revealed he has several irons in the fire and could sign up to four players in the next 10 days. The Rams have agreed a deal with Gareth Roberts to move to Pride Park on a free transfer when his contract at Championship rivals Doncaster expires at the end of June. Yet Clough says he is busy working behind the scenes to further bolster his squad following the release of eight players - including Jay McEveley and Gary Teale - at the end of the season. Clough told Rams Player: "We could be in a position where in the next week or ten days we have three or four players in. "That isn't say we will have, but we could. A couple of those involve fees and a couple are free transfers, so we will have to see how it pans out. "We want to do our deals as quickly as possible so we're not hanging on so much into July. If possible we want to have everyone together for the start of pre-season."
