Derby boss Nigel Clough is close to completing the signing of American youngster Conor Doyle. The 18-year-old forward has impressed during a pre-season trial at Pride Park, making four friendly appearances, and Clough is confident that any work permit issues can be overcome. "We have talked to Conor, and his mum and dad, and we will try to get something sorted out in the next couple of days," said Clough in the Derby Evening Telegraph. "Conor would have to give up his scholarship to become a professional footballer here, which is a big decision for him and his parents. "He has worked very hard for that three or four-year scholarship but he is willing to give football a go. We will try to see if we can do anything for his education here and make sure he is looked after." Meanwhile, Stoke midfielder Michael Tongue has stated that he would like to return to Derby following a successful loan spell last year. "I enjoyed my time at Derby and played quite a few games," he told The Sentinel. "I would definitely look at it with being there last season. They've got a great stadium and great training facilities, and I'm sure they'll be looking to push on next season."
