Robins, accredited with helping to save Sir Alex Ferguson from the sack at Old Trafford with a famous FA Cup winner for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest in 1990, made a lasting impression on Clough during the pair's time at Burton together. Clough said: "I know Mark Robins well. We had him as a player at Burton and he is a top professional. "He is a superb appointment by Barnsley and we will wish him well for the rest of the season. "Mark is a very calm person, who will have a steadying influence on the club and over time have success and he is assisted by some very good people as well, like John Breckin and Steve Taylor."
