Boss waiting to strike

Derby manager Nigel Clough is willing to wait in order to sign the right striker on loan. The Rams were set to sign West Brom`s Chris Wood until injuries at the Premier League club stalled the deal last week. Derby might have to wait several weeks before Albion forwards Roman Bednar and Ishmael Miller are fit again. Clough remains very keen on 18-year-old Wood, but he does have another loan target in his sights. "We did have a deal (for Chris Wood) lined up but, unfortunately, because of injuries at his club, that one has been shelved just for the time being," said Clough. "We hope to revisit that in the next four to six weeks but we will keep knocking on the door every week or so to see if there has been any development. "We will keep waiting because we think he would fit in but we are making another enquiry. If we got that one, it would be to January anyway, so we wouldn't chase the other one. They are two good strikers and if we can`t get one of them, we will wait for somebody similar." Clough added: "It is tempting just to get somebody in but there is no point in us bringing somebody in just for the sake of it. Loan signings must be better than what we have got already."
