Barker looking at the positives

The £900,000 summer signing from Blackpool has made just one brief appearance so far - as a last-minute substitute in the Championship defeat at Scunthorpe on August 15 - after sustaining a pre-season thigh injury. While his time on the touchline has been frustrating, Barker insists it has given him a better understanding of how the manager wants the team to play. He told the Derby Telegraph: "As a new player you want to play straight away, so this has been a little bit different for me as I have not been used to being injured. "But I have tried to use it in a positive way. I have been able to sit back and have a look at what the gaffer wants and see how the team play. "Hopefully that will stand me in good stead when I am ready to challenge for a place again."
