Morten Olsen will stay on as Danish national coach after all as on Tuesday he was awarded a new contract which will see him through to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil, the Danish Football Federation announced.

The 62-year-old former Danish captain had originally said he would step down after next year's Euro 2012 finals but having guided them there with an impressive win over Portugal in their final qualifier he and the federation have had a change of heart.

Olsen has guided the Danes to four major championships - the 2002 and 2010 World Cup finals and Euro 2004 being the other three - in the 11 years he has been in charge.

But his image took a battering when they failed to reach the second round at last year's World Cup.

According to the Danish media the decision to extend the 102-times capped great's reign has been greeted positively by both the players and the public with 57 percent of the latter welcoming the move while 18 percent voiced their discontent.
