Denmark's Patrick Mtiliga has played his final game for Denmark, national team coach Morten Olsen said here Tuesday, after the player refused to warm-up for a World Cup qualifier against Italy.

Denmark lost the Group B match 3-1 to drop to second from bottom of Group B with two points from three games as Italy made it 10 points from a possible 12 to boost their chances of qualifying for Brazil 2014.

After the match Olsen explained why Mtiliga would not play for the national side again.

"He has played his final game for Denmark," said Olsen.

"He refused to warm up for the game because he was too unhappy at not being in the starting eleven and seeing Simon Poulsen start instead.

"It's not acceptable."

Mtiliga is of Gambian origin but was born in Copenhagen.

The 21-year-old defender won six caps for Denmark and plays for Danish champions Nordsjaelland.
