Krohn-Dehli makes Dutch pay for wilderness years

Danish journeyman forward Michael Krohn-Dehli's next conversation with his Dutch fiance could be a fraught one after his goal gave the Danes a shock 1-0 victory over Holland on Saturday.

"I played six years in Holland, at Ajax, Waalwijk and Sparta Rotterdam," he said.

"This victory is very personal for me. Even more so that my girlfriend is Dutch."

"This time in Holland wasn't always easy," he ruefully admitted.

"But one thing it did do was it hardened me. And above all it permitted me to learn Dutch. On Saturday, I understood everything that our opponents were saying on the pitch, so my time there wasn't wasted," he added with a smile.
