Euro 2012 Group H Update - September 2011

07 September 2011 14:42

Three teams remain deadlocked at the top of Group H after two goals from out of favour Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner secured Denmark a crucial 2-0 win over Scandinavian neighbours and group rivals Norway. Portugal however, who didn't play, were the real winners on the night and they remain top of the group with just two games to go.

A number of permutations are possible with anyone of the three countries able to fill either of the top two slots. However Norway are odds on favourites to miss out on the top spot as a victory for either of their rivals in either of their final two matches would make it impossible for Egil Olsen's team to finish the campaign at the head of the group. The final standings could be decided at a winner takes all showdown between Denmark and Portugal at the Parken Stadium on October 11th. The Danes have home advantage, but the 3-1 victory gained by Portugal in Porto 12 months previously would mean a draw was good enough to see them through. This one is just too close to call.
