Windass unhappy to exit

DEAN Windass has revealed his disappointment at not being kept informed of the situation regarding Colin Todd’s position as Darlington manager. Todd departed Quakers on Saturday after agreeing with chairman Raj Singh to step down should Quakers fail to win at Grimsby Town and Windass has also left the club. Todd made the arrangement with Singh last week but kept the plan secret with not even Windass, his assistant, being kept informed. Windass discovered Todd was leaving at the same time as the players, in the dressing room at Grimsby, and he said: “I am gutted it ended as it did at Darlington and I am upset that no one told me, I had to ring the chairman myself and ask what the situation was. “Colin made the announcement, which was news to me, and the players were asking me what was going on. I would have fancied a crack at taking over, but it’s not to be and that’s disappointing. “I still fancy a crack at management and I wanted the opportunity at Darlington but I didn’t get it. Sometimes things don’t work out but I am disappointed I didn’t get the chance. “They are bottom of the league and I really think I could have turned it round with my own ideas. “It doesn’t frighten me. I have had my eyes opened to it and I have seen how hard it can be, but how rewarding, and I just hope I get the opportunity at some stage.” Windass, 40, was used sparingly as a player by Todd but he does not want to retire yet and added: “I want to carry on playing. “Colin Todd wanted me to focus on the coaching side of things and he didn’t play me but I won’t be retiring yet and I was on a non-contract at Darlington, so I am still available and still want to play. “I said I will probably retire at the end of this season but I was still training everyday, still coming home and training on my own so I am still in good nick. I think I still have a lot to offer as a player.”
