Too little too late for Taylor

Greg Taylor admitted Darlington left it too late to begin their fightback when they lost 3-2 at Hayes & Yeading at the weekend.[LNB] Quakers were 3-0 down after 54 minutes at Church Road, but an own goal and Taylor's first for the club gave hope that a point could be salvaged. Instead Mark Cooper's men sank to a defeat which drops them a place to ninth, with four league matches remaining.[LNB] Taylor, heavily involved in the build-up to Quakers' first strike, said: "It was nice to get a goal but the main thing was the result.[LNB] "We left it too late after going 2-0 down in the first half and we didn't play well.[LNB] "If we'd got the first goal in the second half it could've been a completely different game. We got a bit of a reaction. We've done it before, where we've left it too late to come back when maybe we're two or 3-0 down and the pressure is off. We need to play like that from the word go."[LNB] Taylor is currently in the team as a holding midfielder while Jamie Chandler recovers from a broken hand.[LNB] The January signing admits he prefers to play at full-back, though he performed well on Saturday.[LNB] He said: "My position really is full-back, either left or right, it doesn't really matter.[LNB] "I used to play in central midfield in my youth team days; it's not my favourite position but I don't mind playing there.[LNB] "It's a good string to have to your bow, so when someone is injured it gives you a chance to play.[LNB] "It's a bit more difficult than full-back because you've got the ball coming at you from every angle, rather than having it played in front of you all the time, but you get used to it."[LNB] Meanwhile, Chris Senior is a major doubt for the FA Trophy final after sustaining a calf injury on Saturday.[LNB] The striker hobbled off midway through the first half after having a shot which clipped the post.[LNB] Senior immediately knew he was in trouble and signalled to be replaced.[LNB] He left the Church Road ground on crutches, to alleviate pressure on the damaged muscle, and he now has just under three weeks to get fit to face Mansfield Town.[LNB] Already out of the final are long-term absentees Michael Brough and Gareth Waite, while Adam Quinn, Greg Taylor, John McReady and Michael Smith are cup-tied.[LNB] Liam Hatch was sidelined on Saturday due to an ear problem but hopes to play some part tomorrow at Kidderminster Harriers.[LNB]
