Todd wants two in

COLIN Todd aims to recruit two more loan players for Darlington, though his immediate priority is to extend the stays of the loan pair already under his wing.[LNB] Sunderlands David Dowson and Jamie Chandler joined last week and wasted little time in making a good impression, as both stood out in the opening two games of the season.[LNB] Aware that rival clubs could attempt to take the pair once their initial 28-day period has expired, Todd is keen on securing a longer stay with Quakers.[LNB] The manager said: Weve got these two players and I have to make sure they stay.[LNB] I had wanted to bring them in until Christmas, but I think the boys wanted to have a look at us and I wanted to have a look at them.[LNB] From what Ive seen in two games we have to extend their loan periods. Its something I have spoken to the boys about and hopefully we can get something finalised very quickly.[LNB] He wants to add a right-midfielder and a left-back to his squad and believes he is edging closer to landing one of his targets, one of whom is another of Steve Bruces youngsters while he has not ruled out doing business with Middlesbrough.[LNB] Todd watched Sunderland reserves friendly at Guiseley on Tuesday but does not expect to make any additions before tomorrows game with Bury at The Northern Echo Darlington Arena.[LNB] I was watching players in a game on Tuesday, he confirmed.[LNB] Ill just be patient, there might be some work still to be done.[LNB] Earlier this week the Darlington manager had suggested he was unsure if Boro would be able to loan any fringe players to their North- East neighbours.[LNB] But he explained yesterday that Boro are occupied with attempting to sell some of their star names, a process which has stalled potential out-goings involving younger members of their squad.[LNB] Theres nothing wrong with Middlesbrough, its just that at the moment theyre in a period where theyre trying to move players out, said Todd. They cant do that and theyre playing some of the younger ones.[LNB] When the time is right the phone call will be made. But at the moment weve had the message not at this moment in time.[LNB] Darlington have three trialists training with the club hoping for a deal defenders Rikki Baines and Darren Williams, who both played in pre-season, and Kevin Gall.[LNB] The winger, spent a short loan with Quakers in 2008 and was released in the summer by Carlisle United.[LNB]
