Todd upbeat after cup tie

DARLINGTON play their first home league game of the season on Saturday and manager Colin Todd is looking to build on Mondays performance against Leeds United. Bury, last seasons beaten play-off finalists, visit The Northern Echo Arena at the end of a week in which Todds team gave Leeds a tough match in the League Cup. The manager took heart from the performance, particularly as it was a huge improvement on last weekends defeat to Aldershot. But he wants Darlington to raise their game again, and said: I think well take a lot of confidence out of Tuesday, we have to. Afterwards the lads in the changing room were very disappointed with losing, but I told them that they could be happy with their performances in terms of work ethic, responsibility and passing. I dont think we were ever on the backfoot. We tried to play on the front foot and be positive. But can we build on that on Saturday We have to build on Tuesday and improve on it against Bury. The league is our bread and butter and we have to get our first win. If we can get a performance like Tuesday, or even better, hopefully well get our first win. Bury have conceded five goals in their first two games. They began with a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth and on Tuesday, in front of Quakers assistant manager Dean Windass, were beaten 2-0 by West Brom in the Carling Cup. But Todd is reluctant to pay too much attention to the Shakers results. He said: Bury will want to bounce back, but Saturdays game is all about us. Meanwhile, former Darlington striker Danny Carlton will miss Saturdays game due to a serious injury sustained against West Brom. He spent much of last season on loan with Quakers from Morecambe, scoring four in 17 appearances, and in the summer signed a two-year deal with Bury. But in Tuesdays cup defeat, Carlton sustained an Achilles problem. His unavailability increases the chances of former Darlington striker Simon Johnson being handed a starting role, especially as the Shakers are already without the highly-rated Andy Bishop.
