Three more in at Quakers

STEVE STAUNTON'S determination to add experience to his squad was rewarded with the loan deadline day capture of midfielder Paul Harsley and defender Danny Hall from Chesterfield.[LNB] The pair join until January 2, while Staunton used his contacts at former club Leeds United to secure 19-year-old centre-half Andrew Milne on a similar basis.[LNB] The arrival of defensive cover will offer competition to the likes of Ian Miller, but speaking at the opening of Darlington's new retail shop last night, the centre back welcomed the new recruits.[LNB] This was the last opportunity for the gaffer to strengthen the squad before January so it makes sense to me.[LNB] We've got some tough games coming up and recent results haven't been what we wanted.[LNB] I don't know too much about the lads but when new players come in it's up to the rest of us to show that we deserve to keep the shirt, said Miller.[LNB] Staunton has brought in 13 new players since taking over from Colin Todd eight weeks ago.[LNB] However, he failed to offload fringe players David Knight, Mark Convery, Paul Arnison and Matt Plummer before the deadline for loan deals passed at 5pm yesterday.[LNB] Milne is yet to make his league debut but 26-year-old Hall and Harsley, 31, are battle- hardened veterans boasting over 500 games between them in Leagues One and Two.[LNB] Hall, who has played for Oldham and Shrewsbury, can operate across the back four while Harsley is experienced as a defensive midfielder and right-back.[LNB] Scunthorpe-born Harsley began his career with Grimsby before playing more than 100 games for his hometown club. After spells with Halifax, Northampton, Macclesfield and Port Vale, he signed for Chesterfield.[LNB] Neither Harsley nor Hall played in the Spireites team that beat Quakers 5-2 last Saturday.[LNB] Milne has been with the Elland Road outfit since he was 10-years-old and has featured in five games for Leeds' reserve team and earned Under- 18s international honours with Scotland.[LNB] The trio will have time to become accustomed to their team-mates as Darlington are not in action until Tuesday's encounter at Notts County.[LNB] Darlington have opened their shop inside The Northern Echo buildings in Priestgate, opposite the Cornmill shopping centre especially for Christmas shoppers in the run-up to the festive period. The new shop will be open from 10am until 2pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 2-8pm Thursdays and 10am-5pm Saturdays, up until Christmas Eve.[LNB]
