Former St Patrick's midfielder Dempsey, 28, and striker Purcell, 24, from Shamrock Rovers, arrived at the Northern Echo Arena last week, but have so far been left kicking their heels due to the adverse weather.[LNB]Dempsey told the Middlesbrough Gazette: "The side has struggled and there is obviously a lack of confidence, but me and Tadhg want to help change that.[LNB]"We have to stop the rot, then maybe snatch a couple of 1-0 wins and then we are up and running. Losing games is a killer for players, but a couple of wins will lift everyone."[LNB]He added: "I looked up to the manager when I was young. I was a half Liverpool, half Man Utd fan, so I watched him play when I was young and it's great to be working with him."[LNB]Purcell said: "Steve Staunton being here was a big factor in me coming. Off the field at the club things are going well, on the pitch it's a big challenge. A lot of players might say it's not for them, but it's a challenge I'm happy to accept."[LNB][LNB]
