Darlington manager David Hodgson has been suspended by the League Two side pending an internal inquiry.
The Quakers held an emergency board meeting on Saturday morning amid increasing speculation about Hodgson's future.
He was linked with the managerial vacancy at Bournemouth earlier this week and a statement on behalf of Darlington revealed the inquiry will be led by chairman George Houghton and will focus on "the performance of the club and the background to open speculation concerning another football club's contact with the manager".
Neil Maddison has been placed in charge of first-team affairs while the inquiry takes place.
