Darlington chairman Raj Singh was last night aiming to make his third managerial appointment inside nine months after Simon Davey's shock resignation.[LNB] Assistant manager Ryan Kidd is among several contenders to replace Davey, who cited personal reasons[LNB] rather than the vacant Hereford United job as his reason for walking out after just 77 days in charge.[LNB] The former Barnsley manager took over on April 1 and had been given the freedom to make wholesale changes ahead of Quakers' season in the Blue Square Bet Premier.[LNB] He avey has released 15 of last season's first team squad and made six signings who will now have to form part of his successor's squad.[LNB] Singh, who is considering approaching former Middlesbrough coach Colin Cooper, has considered Kidd, although Darlington hope to draw up a short-list within the next 24 hours.[LNB] As soon as we got confirmation from Simon Davey in writing of his resignation we went to the League Managers' Association and they have circulated that the position is available again, said managing director Graham Fordy last night.[LNB] There has already been lots of enquiries, we have spoken to one person today and we are due to speak to several more tomorrow. We are disappointed that this situation has come around so quickly again after making changes, but that's football. We remain determined to aim for promotion next season with the next manager in charge.[LNB] There is a determination at The Northern Echo Arena to make a quick appointment.[LNB] Darlington have attracted interest in the past from Craig Hignett, Kevan Smith, Peter Beardsley and Mark Cooper.[LNB] It's another set-back that we don't need after we'd managed to create a bit of a buzz around the club, said Singh.[LNB] We're absolutely delighted with season ticket sales and I'd like to thank everyone who has renewed up to now. Believe me, we share their disappointment in all of this.[LNB] All we can do is assure all our supporters that we'll do everything we can to re-create the positive vibe we had at the club before the weekend.[LNB] The club is more important than any individual, including myself, so it's important that we stick together on this. We've endured a number of set-backs in the last year but it just makes me even more determined. We have to move forward quickly so we'll look to install a replacement as soon as possible and get on with the job.[LNB] Davey has not talked to Quakers since heading to the United States to coach at the Paul Scholes Academy in Orlando, Florida.[LNB] Darlington insist the reason for Davey's decision is unclear, although they are aware that Hereford are hoping to announce a new manager this Saturday.[LNB] Hereford interviewed three people for the job last week and they were hoping to announce their new manager this weekend, said Fordy.[LNB] Simon Davey was in the United States coaching last week, so I can't see how it would have been him who was interviewed.[LNB]
