Quakers land Taylor

DARLINGTON are expected to complete the signing of Kettering defender Greg Taylor today after missing out on his team-mate John Dempster.[LNB] Dempster was all set to join his ex-boss Mark Cooper at The Northern Echo Arena in a double deal, before he opted to sign for Blue Square moneybags outfit Crawley Town.[LNB] But Cooper is pleased to see something positive come out of a frustrating week of wheeling and dealing, with Taylor signing an 18-month contract yesterday.[LNB] Quakers manager is trying to bring in at least three new faces during the January transfer window, as well as signing Carlisle midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson on a permanent deal.[LNB] And he's looking forward to working with Taylor again after he originally took the 20-year-old England C international from Northampton to Kettering in July 2009.[LNB] Cooper said: He's a younger player with great potential and genuinely a twofooted player. He's a good athlete and can play anywhere along the back four and in midfield, so he'll be a real good acquisition.[LNB] He was man of the match when we played Kettering down there this season. He's just the kind of player we need and I'm looking forward to working with him again.[LNB] Cooper admitted he was disappointed to lose out on Dempster but acknowledged the player was looking after himself.[LNB] Obviously Crawley have come in and offered a lot more money, he admitted.[LNB] I can't blame the player because he's going to be get a lot more money than we were able to pay him.[LNB] I suppose sometimes in business when you agree on a deal, it is not set in stone until it is actually signed.[LNB] When you've worked with someone for two years and they tell you you've got a deal it's a bit disappointing when they go back on it.[LNB] We have to move on, we're not going to cry about it. We can't compete with Crawley and we know that, so we move on and try and get in somebody else.[LNB] In Greg we have a player who was desperate to come.[LNB] We had him up the other day, his eyes lit up and he was taking pictures of the stadium and sending them back to his mum and dad.[LNB] He's looking forward to it, he'll be a good asset.[LNB] Cooper is close to completing at least one more transfer today, while he also remains optimistic about securing Bridge-Wilkinson from Carlisle.[LNB] But he won't be taking up the option of taking striker Jefferson Louis on a permanent deal from Gainsborough Trinity.[LNB]
