Quakers keep a keeper

SHANE REDMOND will remain with Darlington until the end of the season after Steve Staunton agreed a new loan deal with Nottingham Forest for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper.[LNB] Following tomorrow's encounter at Bradford City, Redmond will begin a 93-day loan agreement to keep him at Quakers for the rest of the campaign.[LNB] Staunton has been impressed by Redmond's willingness to dominate the penalty box and his attitude in training, which the manager believes has provided Nick Liversedge with an ideal role model.[LNB] Shane has had a very positive effect,'' said Staunton.[LNB] Not just on the outfield players during matches but he's proving to be an excellent example for young Nick to follow.[LNB] His attitude to everything is first class and we are delighted to keep him. It was a position I was concerned about when I came here but Shane has proved that he is worthy of keeping the shirt for the foreseeable future.[LNB] He has a good understanding with the back four. He is going to stay with us because we want continuity.[LNB] I like to see my goalkeeper come for crosses and dominate the box. I'd rather that than seeing him stay rooted to his line.[LNB] When you consider that Nick has only just come in to the first team this season he's has done fantastically. It's a pity we couldn't have pulled him out a bit earlier. We didn't have a strong enough team to help him and he became a bit exposed. I think he would do a lot better playing behind the team we have at this moment in time.'' Staunton will check on his walking wounded before the trip to Valley Parade, with Ian Miller and Ritchie Byrne causing concern.[LNB] We have a few knocks and niggles as usual and we are wrapping a few up in cotton wool,'' he said.[LNB] With the backlog of games there won't be too many chances for us to have serious training sessions, it will just be a matter of preparing the lads for the next game rather than grafting on the training pitch.[LNB] Gareth Waite has a niggling problem and he is a doubt as are the two centrebacks so Alan White comes into contention. At the end of the Chesterfield game I was speechless. What can you say to the players after that[LNB] The most important thing is they realise that they are getting stronger as a group.[LNB] They know they have the ability to win games and get the club out of the trouble it's in. There is not a lot of difference between any of the teams in this league, it's all about not making errors in your penalty boxes.[LNB]
