Quakers have belief says Hatch

DARLINGTON'S six-game unbeaten run, says strikerturned- defender Liam Hatch, has given the squad belief that they can climb the table.[LNB] Hatch points out that Quakers have taken points off several teams towards the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier, a feat which suggest the team are capable of maintaining their upturn in form.[LNB] We've started to believe in ourselves, said Hatch, who is on loan from Peterborough until January.[LNB] We've played all the top teams, we've beaten Wimbledon and we've drawn with Luton and Crawley so we know we can compete with the top teams.[LNB] We've just got to make sure we're on top of our game every week 100 per cent and we'll get results.[LNB] The 28-year-old has played in defence in each of the last five matches and the switch has proved to be an inspired move by manager Mark Cooper.[LNB] Hatch, man of the match during Saturday's 1-1 draw with second-placed Crawley, says he is enjoying his new position, though explained he has played as a centre-back earlier in his career.[LNB] He said: I played a couple of games in defence when I was at Barnet when we short of players and I did alright.[LNB] Once you've learnt to read the game and I've got a bit of knowledge of this sort of level now you know where to be.[LNB] You can drop off, know when to picks things up, know when you can nip in front.[LNB] The gaffer asked me if I'd go there because he felt we were not winning enough balls in the air and he felt I could do a job back there.[LNB] The first time we did it was in a training session before the game at Mossley when I couldn't play. So in training the gaffer asked me to go centre- back and I did quite well.[LNB] I think that's what put the idea in is head and I'm enjoying it there. I seem to be playing well so I might stay in that position.[LNB] I've really enjoyed it. It helps to have some experienced defenders with me with Brown, Hone and Miller who came across to play in the centre when we switched to three at the back on Saturday.[LNB] Although star man on Saturday, Hatch says he played a part in Crawley's goal, saying: I was a little bit disappointed with the goal. It came off my shoulder and Brodie managed to get in my behind me.[LNB] So that was disappointing from a personal point of view but the result was very good.[LNB] Once we went down to ten men we worked really hard and came out with a fantastic result.[LNB]
