Quakers frozen off

Darlington'S match at Cambridge United this afternoon was postponed due to a frozen pitch before Quakers set off yesterday.[LNB] Mark Cooper's team were saved from making a wasted trip as today's match at the Abbey Stadium was called off due to a frozen pitch yesterday morning following an inspection by the match referee.[LNB] A Cambridge spokesman said: Local referee Kevin Wright arrived at the ground this morning and in consultation with the match referee, Chris Knowles, deemed the surface unsafe for play following freezing overnight temperatures, with the forecast for further sub-zero temperatures and snow for tomorrow.[LNB] The postponements adds to the backlog Quakers must work through in the new year with the latest call-off being the fourth in Darlington's last five scheduled matches.[LNB] The Boxing Day home game with Fleetwood Town represents the first of 12 matches to be played in 38 days an average of one every three days.[LNB] A new date for the Cambridge game is yet to be confirmed, but Tuesday, February 15 has been provisionally set.[LNB] Meanwhile, the venue for Quakers' Christmas coaching courses next week has been switched.[LNB] Children can spend some of their Christmas holidays enjoying the three-day football coaching course held by Darlington's Football in the Community.[LNB] The three day course on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday December 20, 21 and 22 is being moved from Eastbourne Sports Complex to Hummersknott School, which has a state-of-the-art 3G pitch as well as indoor facilities.[LNB] Boys and girls aged between five and 13 can enjoy the courses with the club's Football in the Community staff, who are all trained and CRB-checked, from 10am through to 3pm.[LNB] They cost £25 per person, or £10 for one day, and anyone interested can call 01325 387019, 07790 015410, or email fitc@darlington-fc.net[LNB]
