A Darlington XI featuring a handful of players with first-team experience drew 2-2 with a youthful Newcastle United XI yesterday.[LNB] Quakers boss Mark Cooper arranged the match to give a run-out to players that have not seen much first-team action recently.[LNB] Paul Arnison, Joe Clarke, Josh Gray, Jamie Chandler, Jefferson Louis and Chris Senior all featured as did Dan Burn and Phil Gray in a team that was otherwise made up of youth players and trialists.[LNB] Sammy Ameobi gave Newcastle the lead before Senior equalised with the Magpies going ahead again only to see Darlington level once more when an unnamed trialist got on the scoresheet.[LNB] As well as Ameobi, included in the Magpies side were Alex Baird, Brad Inman, Jeff Henderson, Michael Riley, Louis Storey, Yven Moyo, Patrick Nzuzi, Patrick McGorrigan and Dennis Knight.[LNB] After watching the friendly, Cooper travelled to Bootham Crescent to spy on York City, who Quakers play at home on Saturday in the FA Cup second round, against Southport.[LNB] York won 2-0 so are now 12th, one place and two points behind Darlington, having won three games in a row without conceding a goal.[LNB]
