Quakers enjoy A Day To Remember
A Day to Remember is the title of the dvd which celebrates Darlington's win at Wembley last month, though if you were there the chances are you will never forget that momentous day.[LNB] Chris Senior earned a place in the club's folklore with that late, late winner against Mansfield Town, a moment that saw manager Mark Cooper's now infamous celebratory run on to the pitch.[LNB] The 120th-minute goal sparked scenes that will live forever in the memories of the 10,000 Darlington fans who travelled to Wembley and saw the club win their first piece of silverware for 20 years.[LNB] Highlights of the match show just how close Quakers came to winning the game in normal time, with both Tommy Wright and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson almost scoring late on, though the inclusion of action replays might not be quite so welcome in Chris Moore's household.[LNB] A slow-motion replay of the winger, since freed by the club, graphically shows how he managed to lose his two front teeth - being booted in the face by Mansfield's Adam Smith.[LNB] The moment Gary Smith sustained a serious knee injury is also captured, his knee buckling as he turns on the touchline midway through the first half.[LNB] As well as highlights of the game, there is behind-the-scenes footage as Quakers asked a camera crew to follow them en route and the result provides an interesting insight into how Cooper prepared his team for Wembley.[LNB] Darlington set off from The Northern Echo Arena the day before the game and the cameras were rolling that afternoon for the team's training session at Queens Park Rangers, when Cooper is interviewed about his team selection.[LNB] Although giving little away, he admits that one player will not make it on to the sub's bench. It later transpires that it was Nathan Modest, his place going instead to Senior.[LNB] Also captured on camera is Mark's father, Terry, the former England international, who was present during training, while former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall is interviewed about supporting Darlington on the day.[LNB] Having previously visited Wembley with the Magpies, he admits after the game that it was good to see a North-East team win on the big occasion for once.[LNB] Because the game was not broadcast live, commentary has been recorded and that's an unfortunate feature which is all too obvious.[LNB] But Quakers have wisely included a feature which includes around five minutes' worth of BBC Tees' commentary of Senior's goal, so you can listen again as Ray Simpson goes bananas in the commentary box.[LNB] A year ago the club were in turmoil, as Simpson makes reference to, but one year on Cooper restored pride on A Day to Remember, an essential dvd for all Darlington fans.[LNB] A Day to Remember is now available from the Arena main reception, priced £14.99, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.[LNB] For those living outside the area, fans can order the DVD by calling 0871 855 1883.[LNB] Alternatively, email your name and address and payments details to ticket@darlington-fc.net.
