Purcell will talk when the season ends

IRISH hotshot Tadhg Purcell has told Darlington he will listen to any contract offer but only at the end of the season.[LNB] The striker is a free agent in the summer and claims to have already turned down the opportunity to begin talks over his future.[LNB] His eight goals in 17 appearances means he is attracting interest elsewhere, though new manager Simon Davey revealed after Monday's defeat to Hereford Purcell is among the players he would like to retain.[LNB] Everyone wants goalscorers and if he's got eight after the turn of the year in this league, you'd like to think he'd be a 20-plus striker in the Conference, said Davey.[LNB] We'll try our hardest to keep hold of him, but he's also got to try his best to impress us between now and the end of the season.[LNB] Purcell, who arrived from Shamrock Rovers in January, said: I've been approached about a contract but I'd prefer to wait until the end of the season, I don't like to talk about contracts now.[LNB] It's up in the air at the moment, that's the way football is when you sign short-term contracts. The onus was on me to come over and try to impress.[LNB] It was a risk for me and it was a risk for Darlington.[LNB] At the end of the season we'll have a chat and the first people I'll be speaking to will be Darlington.[LNB] We'll see what happens at the end of the season. If I stay here or whether I move on, we'll just have to see.[LNB] While Purcell's future at Darlington remains unclear, the 25-year-old is certain he wants to remain in England.[LNB] Hopefully my future is over here, he said. I want to make a career for myself over here, I want to pursue it as far as I can and get to as high a level as I can.[LNB] I don't think going back to the League of Ireland is an option.[LNB] I played in the league and I saw enough, now I've taken the opportunity to come here.[LNB] You can go as far as you want over here, I mean, the best division in the world is in this country.[LNB] It's good to be playing football here. It's only a stone's throw from home and I think I could settle here.[LNB]
