Darlington boss Dave Penney was delighted with a 1-0 home victory over Chester City which consolidated his side's third place in League Two.
Pawel Abbott's first-half strike proved decisive at the Darlington Arena and moved the Quakers four points ahead of fourth-placed Hereford United.
Penney said after the win: "It was a scrappy game, but the three points were all important and we've a four-point gap over Hereford now and we are within three points of leaders Peterborough.
"We will hopefully continue to keep picking up points and getting the goals that will improve further our goal difference.
"We have players coming back from injury now and we'll need them all as the season draws to a close, as we may get more suspensions and injuries."
