Darlington manager Dave Penney was pleased with his side's performance in their 2-1 Carling Cup first round success at Walsall.
The Quakers overcame their League One opponents in normal time, after the Saddlers had had Michael Ricketts sent off shortly before half-time.
Penney said: "We played some very good football and several of the players showed that their match fitness is improving.
"The pitch was in perfect condition and I told the players that they should be able to play their normal game on it.
"There was some very good individual performances and I thought that both Jason Kennedy and Billy Clarke took their goals very well."
