Penney hopes his departure helps
The club's administrators had previously extended the deadline for offers to May 5 and will continue to hold several meetings on Wednesday as the cash-strapped Quakers look to find a buyer.[LNB]Penney, who penned a two-year deal with Oldham after resigning from his post with Darlington last week, said: "I've got off the wages so it's less of a burden and hopefully the club can survive during the summer and a new owner comes in ready for next season.[LNB]"You want to manage at the highest level and I was hoping to take Darlington to League One, it wasn't to be.[LNB]"I think this season we would have done it, we'd still be in the play-offs now if we hadn't had the 10 points taken off - or even gone up automatic - I'm disappointed but I took the short cut by leaving here and going there.[LNB]"It got to a stage where I couldn't manage the club and I was basically just fire-fighting on a day-to-day basis so it was time I moved on."[LNB][LNB]
