Darlington have received a major injury blow with the news that goalkeeper Andy Oakes will be out of action for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old has been told he requires surgery on a shoulder injury which will sideline him for six months.

Oakes has made six first-team appearances for the Quakers this season.

"He didn't seem that bad but he walked off during training on New Year's Eve with a sore shoulder, but unfortunately he needs surgery and will be out for a while," manager Dave Penney told the club's official website.

"It is all a bit technical but he is suffering from ligament damage and bone damage."

Meanwhile, the Quakers could also be without Pawel Abbott for around a month after sending the striker for knee surgery.

"He's been holding off having it done but the injury is restricting him and he's missed a lot of training," added Penney.
