Negative fans annoy Quakers
17 Nov 2008 - 11:31:37
Darlington number two Martin Gray has hit out at a 'small minority' of fans after manager Dave Penney was heckled during his side's 2-0 win over Lincoln City.
Penney was celebrating his 50th game in charge of the Quakers and goals from Liam Hatch and Richie Foran kept them at the top of the League Two table.
But before taking the lead in the 47th minute, Penney had come under fire from some sections of the home crowd to the dismay of Gray.
"He (Penney) is very disappointed and frustrated with a very small minority - and I mean small minority because 99 per cent of the fans are with us," he said.
"But there's a small minority that do frustrate you.
"A lot of fans were disappointed when Franz (Burgmeier) came off which disappoints us, because tactically the formation worked and that's why we won the game.
"Franz is more attacked-minded and he has great delivery.
"But it didn't take a rocket scientist to work out that we were going to have to defend for long periods."
