Knight deal cancelled

Leon Knight will not be signing for Darlington The Northern Echo can reveal.[LNB] His former club Rushden & Diamonds have invoked a clause in the contract signed when he was at Nene Park in 2008.[LNB] The clause means they are entitled to £30,000 if Knight signs for a English club before May 2011.[LNB] Darlington and Knight are not prepared to pay the fee so the deal is off, leaving manager Mark Cooper to look elsewhere for a new striker.[LNB] Knight's contract at Rushden lasted until the summer of 2010 so Darlington had been led to believe that the clause no longer existed which is why last week they agreed to sign the 28-year-old.[LNB] But Rushden recently triggered an extension in Knight's deal to 2011 - so his next club is likely to be outside England.[LNB] Since Rushden he has spent time with clubs in Greece and Scotland.[LNB]
