    Hatch escapes serious injury

    19 Nov 2008 - 11:07:17

X-rays have revealed that Darlington striker Liam Hatch did not suffer a broken neck in Tuesday's FA Cup exit at the hands of Blue Square North side Droylsden.

The 26-year-old, who is on loan at the Darlington Arena from Peterborough United, had to be taken to hospital by ambulance after being treated on the pitch for almost 30 minutes.

After undergoing X-rays, Hatch was able to leave the hospital on Tuesday night and return to the north-east.

Quakers boss Dave Penney had said immediately after the shock 1-0 loss: "It was a nasty collision and he looked to have hurt his neck considerably.

"Nobody wants to see that happen and we hope it isn't that bad. Getting back to the game we weren't at the races and we played into their hands throughout.

"We played too many long balls and with the level they play at they are used to that type of football but we never adjusted things."
