    Dogged Darlo delight Penney

    13 Oct 2008 - 13:44:12

Darlington manager Dave Penney hailed his side's resilience as the Quakers sealed a hard-earned 2-1 victory at Luton Town.

Substitute Gregg Blundell grabbed a last-minute winner for Penney's side as they moved into ninth spot in the League Two table.

"We said beforehand we had to grind out a result and not be fancy-dans," said Penney. "Luton's a tough place to come and pick up points, because not long ago they were a Championship side and have some good players.

"We had to dig in, and the early goal was something to hang on to. We have to give Luton credit, because they're fighting for their lives trying to catch up, and to have nearly 6,000 fans cheering them on is quite an advantage.

"I thought compared to our last two away games, we were a lot more resilient. I thought we defended magnificently as a team.

"We weathered the storm in the second half and changed things about a bit with the substitution. We still opened Luton up and caused them problems."
