DARLINGTON Football Club has confirmed that manager Simon Davey has quit the club.[LNB] Davey sent Quakers chairman Raj Singh an email informing him of his decision to end his contract at The Northern Echo Arena.[LNB] Darlington, who are now looking to install a replacement as soon as possible, ensured supporters there had been no fall-out with Davey and that they tried to persuade him to stay as manager.[LNB] Mr Singh said: "We were as shell-shocked as anyone to receive this news and it does come as a big blow to us and our plans.[LNB] "We tried contacting Simon on several occasions and he wouldn't take our calls. Graham Fordy spoke to his agent who denied all knowledge about the situation and we then spoke to his assistant Ryan Kidd yesterday (Tuesday), who was just as flabbergasted as we were.[LNB] "Unfortunately we've now had official confirmation from him in writing that he wishes to leave. The reason for the delay in making a statement about this was because we wanted to speak to Simon to try and resolve the situation, but he's made it clear he's made his decision.[LNB] "It's very disappointing and frustrating that we've not been able to speak directly to Simon about this so that he could explain to us exactly why he's made this decision.[LNB] "He has very briefly cited personal reasons and insists that it's nothing personal or detrimental about me or the club.[LNB] "I can confirm that we've had no contact whatsoever from Hereford United, or any other club, regarding his contractual situation here.[LNB] "It's very disappointing, to say the least. We gave Simon everything that he'd asked for, as we did with the previous two managers, and the rumours that we cut his budget is simply not true.[LNB] "We'd also like to make it clear that we do accept agents are part and parcel of the game and we have to work with them. My comments last week referred to one deal in particular when an agent threw a fee in at the eleventh hour. Simon backed me wholeheartedly on that decision.[LNB] "It's another set-back that we don't need after we'd managed to create a bit of a buzz around the club. We're absolutely delighted with season ticket sales and I'd like to thank everyone who has renewed up to now.[LNB] "Believe me, we share their disappointment in all of this. All we can do is assure all our supporters that we'll do everything we can to re-create the positive vibe we had at the club before the weekend.[LNB] "At the end of the day the club is more important than any individual, including myself, so it's important that we stick together on this.[LNB] "We've endured a number of set-backs in the last year but it just makes me even more determined.[LNB] "We have to move forward quickly so we'll look to install a replacement as soon as possible and get on with the job."[LNB] What do you think Let us know.[LNB]
