Darlington out of Cup

Barnet 3 Darlington 1[LNB] Darlington will be sick of the sight of Underhill after losing at Barnet today for the second time in two weeks, this time in the FA Cup.[LNB] French striker Mor Diop scored his first for the club but the second half strike was too little too late as Steve Staunton's side lost 3-1, but they went out fighting.[LNB] Quakers created a flurry of chances with Diop a handful to the Barnet defence and keeper Jake Cole had to be at his best to keep out a James Collins effort.[LNB] When the sides met in the League two weeks ago, Barnet scored all three of their goals in the second half but today they held a 1-0 lead by half-time and added to it after the break before Diop's 73rd minute strike.[LNB] Quakers had further chances to pull a goal back but they were unable to level the scores so go out at the first round stage for the third consecutive year.[LNB] It could have been so different had Matty Plummer done better at an early corner.[LNB] He headed wide when he met Jeff Smith's near-post corner inside the first five minutes, although he may have received a push from Gary Breen.[LNB] The corner came after a Darlington attack that had seen Barnet's Ismail Yakubu booked by referee Darren Deadman for fouling Quakers striker Collins on the edge of the hosts' penalty area.[LNB] By the 11th minute ' Gary Smith also found himself in Deadman's book thanks to some blatant gamesmanship from the Bees' Mark Hughes who deliberately kicked the ball at the Darlington midfielder as he tried to take a quick free-kick.[LNB] The laws of the game state that a yellow card must be shown so Deadman was not at fault, but Hughes had been able to use the rules to his team's advantage.[LNB] After two games out with a knee injury Smith returned to the side in a midfield that also featured Jeff Smith and David Davis while winger Mark Convery had a roving role which was saw him repeatedly switching wings.[LNB] The tactics saw Quakers start positively with Collins seeing a ball to Barnet's far post but it was cut out by Ahmed Deen.[LNB] And within seconds it was 1-0 to Barnet after the hosts' first shot resulted in a goal.[LNB] A weak Darlington defensive header saw Barnet's Paul Furlong play the ball into strike-partner John O'Flynn who calmly slotted past Nick Liversedge.[LNB] The goal meant Darlington had conceded the first goal of the game for the 19th time in 19 matches this season.[LNB] It was harsh on Quakers but ten minutes before the break Furlong could have made it 2-0 with a header.[LNB] He met a cross from winger Albert Adomah, a player sponsored the BBC's John Motson, but Furlong's effort was too close to Liversedge who gathered cleanly. The half finished with Breen pushing Simon Thomas to the ground as the ball was going out of play, an incident that went unpunished but enough to suggest that some players felt there was perhaps unfinished business from the game two weeks ago.[LNB] Earlier in the half Gary Smith had pushed Hughes to the floor as they competed for the ball, and Collins exchanged words with Barnet boss Ian Hendon.[LNB] Hendon was angry as he believed Collins had gone to ground too easily in an attempt to earn a free-kick, but Staunton was probably just as annoyed with the scoreline and sent his players out on to the pitch two minutes early for the second half.[LNB] Despite Davis and Moses Barnett both being disappointing before the break, Staunton made no substitutions at the break and that was a decision he must have been regretting three minutes after the restart when it became 2-0 and Barnett was partly to blame.[LNB] His weak clearance was collected by Hughes who sent the ball into Quakers' penalty area when an unmarked Furlong laid the ball off Micah Hyde to tap into an empty net.[LNB] It was soon almost 3-0 after Barnes allowed Yannick Bolasie to escape his attentions but the Barnet left-winger miscued his header when meeting Adomah's precise cross.[LNB] Collins blasted wide on 53 minutes before Staunton made a double substitution, sending on Diop and Josh Gray as Quakers switched to three up front.[LNB] The switch soon had an impact with Diop integral to a move that saw Barnet keeper Jake Cole called into action for the first time.[LNB] He reacted quickly to push Collins' powerful blast over the bar after Gray's long-range shot had been intercepted by Darlington's on loan striker, and then Thomas called Cole into action.[LNB] He latched on to a superb Barnett ball dinked over Barnet's defence before lashing a powerful low shot at goal that Cole kept out with his legs.[LNB] The attack suggested Darlington were not out of the game yet, but 60 seconds later it was suddenly all over with O'Flynn making it 3-0.[LNB] Darlington were unable to deal with a seemingly harmless deep cross by Deen from the right and that enabled O'Flynn to head past Liverdsedge.[LNB] At 3-0 Hendon was perhaps feeling confident so took off Adomah and Yakubu but Darlington demonstrated some fighting quality.[LNB] Thomas saw a powerful left-footed shot palmed away by Cole and although Collins first to the rebound his header was hooked off the line by Deen.[LNB] On 73 minutes came the goal Quakers deserved with Paris-born Diop scoring.[LNB] The move began with a direct Gray run down the left, he played the ball inside to Collins who in turn picked out Diop's unchecked run into the hosts' penalty area where he lashed past Cole.[LNB] The goal signalled a fightback and within two minutes Collins should have pulled another goal back but he hesitated with the ball at his feet in Barnet's penalty area and the chance was gone.[LNB] Diop then raced away from a static Bees defence but his low effort rolled narrowly wide of Cole's goal and Davis saw a late effort easily saved.[LNB] Quakers did not again come close to pulling a goal back, leaving the 178 visiting fans to again make the trek home after another defeat at Underhill.[LNB] Goals: 1-0 (18, O'Flynn), 2-0 (48, M Hyde), 3-0 (66, O'Flynn); 3-1 (73, Diop)[LNB] Bookings: Yakubu (5, foul); G Smith (11, foul)[LNB] Referee: Darren Deadman (Peterborough)[LNB] Attendance: 1,654[LNB] Barnet (4-4-2): Cole; Deen, Yakubu (Kamdjo 67), Breen, Gillet; Adomah (Jarrett 72), Hughes, M Hyde, Bolasie (Deverdics 87); Furlong, O'Flynn.
