Lee Thorpe was the hero as Darlington claimed their first win of the season at the expense of struggling Lincoln in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Lincoln had plenty of possession early on and they should have gone ahead when Paul Connor was denied from close range by Darlington keeper David Knight. Kevin Gall volleyed wide for Darlington before Thorpe met Mark Convery's cross with a close-range volley. Gall came close to making it 2-0 but narrowly missed with another volley. Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "I'm disappointed to go out but it was a vast improvement on the performance against Dagenham (on Saturday), at least we had a go tonight. "I was pleased with the effort and if Connor had scored after 10 minutes to put us 1-0 up who knows what could have happened? "It's important that we have belief that we can turn the corner but at the moment it's difficult to take."
