Chandler on the goals trail

Darlington midfielder Jamie Chandler is not known for his goalscoring ability, but now that he has found the net once, he is eager to do it again.[LNB] His first strike in senior football sealed Saturday's 3-0 win over Forest Green Rovers, after which Mark Cooper joked that it was the first time he had seen Chandler in the opposition penalty area.[LNB] But the manager also lauded the exuberant youngster's attitude after taking him out of the starting XI in order to put the taller Joe Clarke into centre-midfield.[LNB] Chandler, teed up to score by Michael Smith, said: I'd been frustrated at not starting but I had to get on with it. The manager always says that if you're on the bench you need to come on and make a difference, and gladly I came on and got a goal.[LNB] My shooting does let me down but hopefully now that I've got one I can go on and get a couple more.[LNB] Smudger had another good game and I was grateful that he pulled the ball back.[LNB] If he hadn't I would've strangled him![LNB] The goal's been a long time coming but hopefully this is just the start.[LNB] Chandler was the only player dropped following the humiliating 1-1 draw at Eastbourne Borough, and he added: I'm like anyone else, I want to play every game. It was a disappointing game last week and I was one of them that watched it four times on the coach on the way back to try and see what I'd done wrong. It was torture, absolute torture.[LNB] I wanted to get it out of my system as quickly as possible and I worked hard this week, but then I wasn't in the team.[LNB] But the side we had out had the game won early on.[LNB] This is a big three points for us because it puts us back on track.[LNB] Meanwhile, Darlington hope to have trialist striker Leon Knight in their ranks in time for Saturday's trip to Bath City.[LNB] He trained with Quakers at the end of last week and watched Saturday's game from the stands.[LNB] We hope Leon will be joining, said Cooper. We've had him training with us for a few days and he's done well.[LNB] He's a proven goalscorer and could be someone that can help us get where we want to be.[LNB] There's nothing sorted yet, we've still got to agree a deal with him and his agent.[LNB] We'll speak to him and his agent and see if we can get him on board.[LNB]
