Campbell in line for his home debut

NEW Darlington striker John Campbell is in line to make his home debut on Saturday, though supporters may have to wait until next season to see the best of him.[LNB] The 22-year-old joined Quakers at the beginning of last week and has played in away games at Luton Town and AFC Telford, impressing in both outings.[LNB] Saturday sees bottom-ofthe- table Eastbourne Borough provide the opposition at The Northern Echo Arena with Campbell likely to again partner Liam Hatch in attack.[LNB] He is still waiting for his first goal, though did carve out a handful of good chances at Telford and manager Mark Cooper says that comes naturally to the former Newcastle Benfield striker.[LNB] We're going to be doing plenty of work with John, but the one thing you can't coach is where to be at the right time, said Cooper.[LNB] He had a couple of chances at Telford, but he's always in the right place and once he gets his fitness up to scratch he'll be a real asset to us.[LNB] He's not been working, he's just been playing for Benfield, so he's getting up to speed now.[LNB] I think we'll see the real value of him next season when he's trained with us for longer. You don't want to shout it from the rooftops, but we think he's going to be a decent player.[LNB] Last weekend Campbell was replaced midway through the second half by Nathan Modest who went on to grab the last goal in a 3-0 win that put Quakers into the FA Trophy quarter-finals.[LNB] Having previously been in the first XI, it was Modest's second game on bench duty, though Cooper admits he may not have been utilising the onloan forward's strengths.[LNB] He said: When Nathan came on he looked really lively and got himself a goal. We wanted to get him on because of his pace and because Telford were getting tired and the game was becoming stretched.[LNB] I might have made a mistake in not using him correctly by asking him to do too much running in behind the defence rather than using his trickery and pace. So we're learning as we go and we've got some options up front with Chris Senior coming back.[LNB] We thought about putting Chris on at the end, but with the nature of the game, it was a bit feisty, I didn't want to risk a silly tackle when the game was already won.[LNB] The line-up for the quarterfinals of the Trophy has been completed with Mansfield and Guiseley winning their replays they will play Chasetown and Luton respectively.[LNB]
