Blundell wins boss backing
16 Oct 2008 - 07:26:16
Darlington manager Dave Penney has assured Gregg Blundell that he remains a key part of his first-team plans.
Blundell, 31, has started just one League Two game for the Quakers this season but remains a vital part of Penney's plans.
Liam Hatch, Adam Proudlock and Billy Clarke are currently ahead of Blundell in the pecking order.
"His fitness levels for a player in his thirties are fantastic," said Penney.
"We were thinking about sending him out on loan when he had recovered from surgery late last season, but he is now very much part of our plans.
"When he was with me at Doncaster we had much of our success with him playing off a big striker.
"We have that here in Liam Hatch, but Gregg is a wiser player now and can adapt to different roles and is at his best getting behind defences, as he did on Saturday."
