Daggers hope to strengthen

Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still has expressed his hopes of signing a new player before the end of the transfer window.

The Daggers boss has lost Peter Gain for up to six weeks after the influential midfielder underwent an operation to repair damaged cartilage.

"We've got a bit of a shortage at the moment with Peter out for a while, so it might be something that I have look at over the next few days," the manager told the Ilford Recorder.

West Ham United midfielder Tony Stokes could be a target for Still, who admitted: "That still remains something I have in mind and I will talk to the club about the possibility of bringing someone in."

Dagenham expect to welcome back this season's leading scorer Paul Benson for Saturday's game with Rochdale.

Benson has been on compassionate leave after his partner gave birth to a baby girl, missing the games with Barnet and Exeter City.

The Daggers chief also said he knew nothing of a bid from Huddersfield Town for the striker.
