Benson remains a Dagger
27 Jul 2009 - 17:48:22
In-demand Dagenham & Redbridge striker Paul Benson could remain at Victoria Road next season after moves to Gillingham and Shrewsbury Town were ruled out.
Newly-promoted League One outfit Gillingham have been chasing Benson but had a bid rejected by the Daggers.
Gills boss Mark Stimson confirmed that he will not make another offer for the striker due to Dagenham's asking price.
And Daggers boss John Still will be buoyed by Benson's refusal to sign for Shrewsbury Town.
Shrews manager Paul Simpson confirmed that he had spoken to the player, but he rejected a move away from Dagenham.
"We made a six-figure offer for a striker and he's decided that he doesn't want to move, it's been reported that it was Paul Benson at Dagenham and that is who we enquired about," Simpson told Town's official website.
"He's decision is because he doesn't want to leave the London area for family reasons and we have to accept that," he added.
