Benson backed to impress

Dagenham & Redbridge striker Paul Benson has been backed to be a big hit as the Essex club prepare for their first season in the Football League.

The 27-year-old was a pivotal figure for the Daggers last season as they roared to the Conference title and team-mate Tony Roberts has backed Benson to make the step up.

He told the Barking & Dagenham Post: "Give him a chance and he'll put the ball in the net. It's just down to how we create the chances for him and if we can create enough.

"He's a good striker. He'll come up against skilful defences, but he's stepped up before and he'll adapt to League Two.

Benson netted 28 league goals last season for John Still's side after his arrival from White Ensign.
