Still happy in defeat

Dagenham manager Still had no complaints with his players, who he thought turned in a "top-class performance" in a 3-1 home defeat to Southampton. Saints made the breakthrough in the 47th minute when Adam Lallana bicycle-kicked Alex Chamberlain's cross past home goalkeeper Tony Roberts before Guly Do Prado calmly side-stepped Scott Doe and buried a shot into the bottom corner in the 76th minute. Dagenham substitute Josh Scott pulled one back for the home side with a well-placed header and Gavin Tomlin hit the crossbar with a free-kick in the 89th minute as John Still's side piled on the pressure, but Rickie Lambert lobbed Roberts in injury time to seal the points for the visitors. Still said: "We did fantastically. I understand where they are and where we are, so we had to work hard in the first half to stay in the game. "Our intention was to work hard and maybe make a change in the second half, which was what we did. We went a goal down a bit too easily, but I thought we gradually got stronger, even at 2-0. "I was quite proud of Dagenham playing in the Football League against Southampton, but on top of that I was really proud of what we gave the game. We've all stood up and been strong and I thought it was a top-class performance."
